Swimming trials LIVE: O'Callaghan's concerning admission

Zachary Gates

Mollie O'Callaghan made an alarming admission after being pipped by clubmate Ariarne Titmus in the 200m freestyle tonight.

O'Callaghan, the previous world record holder and 2023 world champion, was asked how it felt to no longer be the hunted, rather the hunter.

"To be honest, I was always overlooked, I wasn't really out there, which I do appreciate a lot [because] I can just fly under the radar," O'Callaghan told reporters.

"I've got to look at the positive side and really take the pressure off me because heading into this I was not in a good place."

Urged to elaborate on that remark, she said: "I couldn't really sleep last night".

Swimming trials LIVE: Winnington downs Short in distance clash

Zachary Gates

Elijah Winnington defeats Sam Short in the men's 800m freestyle final and nails Swimming Australia's Olympic qualification time, stopping the clock at 7:44.90.

Short wraps up a top-two finish but misses Swimming Australia's strict benchmark, clocking 7:46.52.

Despite that, he may still get a go in the 800m in Paris as he's certain to be racing in France, having qualified in the 400m on Monday night.

Swimming Australia's qualification time is 7:45.80, which is stricter than World Aquatics' benchmark.

The star swimmer from Sussex Inlet on the NSW South Coast posts 2:33.69. The qualification time is 2:33.32.

She beat her closest rival by more than eight seconds.

The women's 200m freestyle record GOES DOWN!

Ariarne Titmus and Mollie O'Callaghan both shatter the global mark held by O'Callaghan.

Titmus blasts out a 1:52.23 and O'Callaghan a 1:52.48.

"The world record is a bonus, but ... honestly since Tokyo I've reflected a 1:52 swimmer every day in training," Titmus told reporters poolside.

"So I'm happy to finally put together a swim that I know I'm capable of.

"It's exciting to do it in my home town, in front of the home-town crowd, and it gives me really good confidence for the Olympics."
