Christmas is coming, but for Santa and Mrs. Claus, the holiday season might be anything but merry! Tawni O’Dell's new play, The Naughty List, is set to explore the potential unraveling of one of the world's most iconic couples. This isn't your typical holiday story; it's a deep dive into love, commitment, and the choices we make.
The play centers around a dramatic Christmas Eve. After 373 years of marriage, a heated argument between Santa and Mrs. Claus leads to a crisis. Mrs. Claus, in a surprising twist, runs off with two young reindeer-in-training! This forces Santa to confront a difficult dilemma: Should he prioritize his professional duties or the woman he loves?
The reading of The Naughty List is scheduled for December 10th and is an industry presentation. The play is directed by Broadway's Sheldon Epps, known for his work on Blues In The Night and Play On!. The cast is impressive, featuring Tony nominees and winners: Daniel Breaker (from Passing Strange and Shrek The Musical), Norbert Leo Butz (of Catch Me If You Can and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels fame), and Michelle Federer (known for Wicked and The Cottage).
But here's where it gets controversial... The play features a mature couple, which makes us think about the realities of long-term relationships.
The play is presented by Mitchell Maxwell, Laura Janik Cronin, Alyssa Melani, and Willette Klausner. Ricky Lurie is responsible for the costume renderings. Adding to the festive atmosphere, The Naughty List will include a classic Christmas song and two new holiday songs, “It Isn’t Really Christmas” and “& To All A Good Night!” by Sam Tsui and Casey Breves.
Catalyst Theatricals is the General Manager, with Cindy Rush Casting handling the casting. Jason Brouillard serves as the Production Stage Manager.
