Learning from my teachers has been my favorite part of school, I also enjoy going to our beautiful campus every day. I love my music and choir experiences and overall, most students have been nice. Lately, there is more separation depending on political opinions and some ideas are more welcomed than others. Also, there is a lot of competition and stress about grades which is normal, I guess, but not great. I have overall enjoyed my experience at Overlake.... They promote safety and equality throughout all groups of people and out of all the schools in BSD, people say they feel the safest at Newport. The inclusivity and diverse programs, clubs, and groups of people here emits such a welcoming environment most students love it here at Newport. 6. #8 Best Private High Schools in WashingtonThe Bush SchoolSeattle, WA•Private School•K-12•Rating 3.74 out of 5 88 reviewsFreshman: As a freshman, I really like the classes. The teachers help you understand the material and most classes teach the concepts in a memorable way. The sports coaches are experienced and hard working, my track coach pushes us to do our best through tough difficult exercises. There are many arts classes that are offered in a large variety. The other students are very friendly and you get to know people well in your classes. The school focuses too much on DEI. You don't want equity because equal outcome doesn't account for the work we put in. Diversity comes along if you have inclusion, you don't need to force it. Several events segregate us by race and gender. I've heard that the white groups during these events talk about how whiteness is bad, but the other ones just talk about anything. We are all American and should be proud of America, not our race. Punishment is rude, my friend got yelled at for mistakenly missing an assembly and was accused of being racist. From 6th grade to the present, ICS has continued to challenge and engage me with its rigorous coursework (all honors classes). Each year builds upon what I have learned in the previous years, which has allowed me to excel in my classes. The teachers are amazing and dedicated to what they do. Although I may have missed out on some of the larger social aspects associated with a larger school, the small community at ICS is fun to be a part of, as you get to know everyone on an individual basis, including teachers, fellow students, and underclassman over the course of 6 years. There are lots of opportunities for mentorship and leadership with the clubs and activities here as well. We've been completely satisfied with the school. In particular, we've been happy with the academic curriculum. We knew that Northwest was a strong arts school, but we weren't sure about math, science, & humanities. All three of these subject areas have been outstanding. The math department is exceptional, including the department head in particular. If capable, a student can progress to advanced calculus and beyond in grades 11&12. Our son's humanities instructor in G8 was one of the most inspiring teachers he has ever had. Overall, the work is challenging but the support resources are excellent. Also, the grading criteria and results are completely transparent. Through an application accessed online, the parent can review all assignments, results and grades in all classes. No surprises! This year, our youngest is at NYHS. This is a very special play or Jewish teens to learn and grow. Every teacher is a mentor. No student falls through the cracks and every student has a voice. They take student agency very seriously at NYHS. Students have a lot of opportunities for leadership that they wouldn't get elsewhere. The dual curriculum enhances students' ability to think critically and analyze information. Such important skils. My children love being Jewish and have a lot of pride in their heritage, regligion and culture. My son was uber prepared for college and is attending a relatively competitive one. Eastside Catholic provided more than just an education. The lessons learned within its halls extend far beyond the confines of academia, serving as guideposts for the journey of self-discovery and lifelong learning that lies ahead. Eastside Catholic's commitment to academic excellence set the stage for a challenging yet enriching high school experience. My daughter previously attended other private and public schools, but the education, care and soc/emo learning which took place at SWSHS is second to none. She is seen and appreciated. Her teachers know her so well and support her in anyway she needs. She does not have to conform or compromise to fit in, she can truly be herself. Academically the experiential/integrated curriculum means the students use their 'full brains', they are flexible and creative and show amazing critical thinking skills. Having gone to 3 other elementary schools (the last one definitely not being my favorite), it was a big relief for me having attended this school in my last year of elementary. I can definitely see why they're rated the best public elementary school in Washington...they really live up to their fame. There's a lot of good diversity, the students are super nice and friendly, the teachers are so helpful, and the staff is just so kind. Only thing I'd change would be the separation of Quest (Gifted) and GenEd (general education.) Having been a Quest student myself, I can definitely tell you that while socializing, Questies hang out with mostly other Questies and vice versa. In fact, I don't think I had even one GenEd friend the whole school year.Overall this is such an amazing school. The food was okay, as far as school lunches go. I didn't do many extracurricular activities, dances, etc. so I can't attest to most of them, but I did spend a lot of time in the drama department. Let me make it clear- I absolutely adore the teachers and staff running it, they really gave it their all and made the best of what they had. But there really was not a lot of support for it, they let go the one drama teacher they had (they excpected the english teachers to step up, and had way more intrest than they could handle so many weren't able to take the class), let go the guy who was maintaining the theatre (that blew up in their faces, tons of stuff broke and assemblies in there were horrid, also the theatre was literally named after him, yikes) I'm pretty sure we didn't really have a budget, most things were self funded.
