Chapter 1 - The French Revolution

Chapter 2 - Socialism in Europe and the Russian Revolution
To understand this chapter, students must learn about the French Revolution from Chapter 1. It is essential to understand the french revolution as it sets the basis for socialism in Europe. This chapter differentiates between liberals, radicals and conservatives. The chapter explains how socialism in Europe brought in Industrial and social change by covering the Industrial Revolutions. It talked about how business owners would exploit their workers by underpaying them and making them work for long hours without any benefits. The chapter then covers how socialism started to come to Europe with new thinkers like Karl Marx and Louis Blanc. The chapter also covers the Russian empire from 1914, its economy and society and the February revolution in Petrograd.
Chapter 3 - Nazism and the Rise of Hitler
This chapter helps students understand how Nazism rose and the cause for it. Because of the first World War, most of Europe's finances were drained. Germany then tried to occupy Belgium and France because of strong allies with America, Germany lost. The great depression and political radicalism in Europe soon gave rise to Hitler. The chapter gives a brief history of Hitler's rise to power and how the country's democracy was broken. The chapter then goes on to cover the rise of Nazism throughout Europe and the second world war. It also covers essential topics like how the youth were affected during Nazism and how propaganda was spread.
Chapter 4 - Forest Society and Colonialism
Here in this chapter, students will learn about how massive deforestation paved the way for urbanisation. It covers how early colonialism tried to improve land, sleepers on tracks and the rise of plantations around the world. The chapters cover how the commercialisation of forests was done and how property systems were introduced into India by the British. The rise of commercial forestry affected so many aspects of life such as the people, cultivation of crops and who could hunt. The chapter then goes on to discuss the rebellions in the forest and the first transformations in Java, which included deforestation, war and new developments in forestry.
Chapter 5 - Pastoralists in the Moderns World
This chapter discusses Nomadic pastoralists and how colonialism has affected their lives and what it does to the people. This chapter looks extensively at the effect of colonialism in India and Africa. There are explanations of the direct relations between colonialism and pastoral life. The chapters show how pastoralists coped with changes and how colonialism affected their lives.
