The world of Pokémon has been a growing phenomenon since 1996, when the first pair of video games came out in stores. Pokémon started off as a video game series and although new creatures are primarily introduced in the video games, the anime series has become as popular as the video games. As of December 2021, there are almost 900 individual Pokémon identified by the PokéDex and in this article, we are going to tell you everything you need to know about one of them – Alakazam.
Alakazam is a Psychic-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It evolves from Kadabra through Trading; it is the highest evolution of Abra. By using Alakazite, it can evolve into Mega Alakazam. Alakazam is one of the strongest attackers from Generation I, although it has low defensive stats. It is weak to Bug-, Ghost-, and Dark-type moves, and is super effective against Fighting- and Poison-type Pokémon.
In this article, we are going to tell you all the information you’ll need if you want to breed an Alakazam in any of the games. You’ll find out about its type, its powers, its strengths and weaknesses, its evolutions, and its moves. We’re going to focus on both the core games, as well as other popular video games based on the Pokémon franchise.
Best moveset
In the Pokémon GO videogame, the best moves for your Alakazam areConfusion andPsychicif you’re battling Pokémon in Gyms. Namely, this moveset gives you the highest total DPS and is, likewise, the best moveset for PVP battles. The official description for Confusion reveals the following: “The target is hit by a weak telekinetic force. This may also confuse the target”; as for Psychic, the attack is described as follows: “The target is hit with a strong telekinetic force to inflict damage. This may also lower the target’s defensive stats.”
Weaknesses and Counters
As a pure Psychic-type Pokémon, Alakazam is super effective against Fighting- and Poison-type Pokémon. It is weak against Bug-, Ghost-, and Dark-type Pokémon. It is not immune to any specific type. It deals and received normal damage from Normal-, Flying-, Poison-, Ground-, Rock-, Steel-, Fire-, Water-, Grass-, Electric-, Ice-, Dragon-, and Fairy-type Pokémon.

Evolutions
Alakazam is the final evolution stage of Abra and Kadabra. Abra evolves into Kadabra by leveling up, starting with Level 16. Kadabra further evolves into Alakazam through Trading. If an Alakazam holds the Alakazite, it can evolve into Mega Alakazam. This Pokémon doesn’t have any known Regional Variants.
In Pokémon GO, Alakazam also evolves from Abra and Kadabra. To evolve your Abra into Kadabra, you need 25 Abra Candies. To further evolve Kadabra into Alazakam, you need either 100 Abra Candies or you need to Trade your Kadabra with another player. Mega Alakazam is, as of December 2021, still not available in Pokémon GO.

In Pokémon GO, Alakazam can learn Psycho Cut, Confusion, and Counter as Fast Attacks, and Future Sight, Focus Blast, Shadow Ball, Fire Punch, Dazzling Gleam, Psychic, Frustration, and Return as Charged Attacks. Some of these attacks depend on when you caught and evolved your Alakazam, as they are event-only attacks.
